Meadow Ridge Residents Raise $387,000 in Scholarships for Associates

Residents of Meadow Ridge, a continuing care retirement community, awarded $387,000 to Meadow Ridge associates and their children through this year’s resident-led Scholarship Fund during a heartfelt ceremony. Funds were provided for the continuing education of 47 recipients.

More than two decades of impact.

The scholarship fund started more than 20 years ago when two residents created a long-term initiative to support associates, or the children of associates. Over the past three years alone, the scholarship fund has awarded nearly $870,000 and more than 130 scholarships, with funds raised increasing each year. The campaign this year culminated in an award ceremony on June 11, where recipients were formally recognized.

An investment in future leaders.

“For 21 years, Meadow Ridge residents have enthusiastically and generously supported our resident scholarship program. There are wonderful stories of how our scholarship program has changed lives and offered new opportunities to the recipients,” said Cynthia Ervin, chair of the Scholarship Selection Committee. “We have every confidence that this year’s recipients will take advantage of this opportunity. They are a special group with much potential, and we wish them well.”

The committee makes an appeal to fellow residents for donations each year, starting in late winter. This year, the amount donated raised the bar for the number of scholarships provided and the total amount awarded. Out of the 47 awardees, 34 will attend a four-year college or university, two are pursuing a master’s degree, six will attend a community college and five will enroll in a trade program. Chosen applicants are reviewed and interviewed by a six-member selection committee, a process that takes nearly five weeks to complete.

Recognition beyond financial support.

“Receiving the scholarship award meant more than just financial assistance. This award is a symbol of not only my hard work and dedication, but also the committee’s commitment to believing in students like me in order to help them reach their goals,” said Tayvian Liang, who will use the scholarship to attend the University of Connecticut School of Law. “I thank you all endlessly for this recognition and your commitment!”
