Ridge Crest, the award-winning sub-acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility located within our Meadow Ridge campus, unveils a renovated therapy gym and expanded outpatient facilities. The new area, which is twice as large as the former gym, features state-of-the-art equipment, large and comfortable outpatient treatment rooms and spaces specifically designed for occupational therapy. It provides physical, occupational and speech therapy to patients from the community, short- and long-term skilled nursing residents and residents of Meadow Ridge.

As part of the renovations, Ridge Crest has added virtual reality therapy with the REAL y-series by Penumbra. Featuring a fully immersive headset, the system helps target functional movement, balance and stability and cognitive improvement by placing users in a virtual world of games and challenges. Sensors placed on the body provide real-time data to measure and monitor the patient’s progress. This allows therapists to better target treatment and helps patients, in many cases, recover more quickly. The equipment is the world’s only full body, hands free, tether-less system.

“Physical and occupational therapy help not only those recovering from major illness or surgery, but also those overcoming pain or mobility limitations in order to age in place,” says Campus Executive Director Chris Barstein. “With added space for outpatient treatment, we’re able to deliver this high-quality care and enhance quality of life for more members of the community as well as residents.”

“We feel fortunate to offer technology and facilities that match the level of skill our therapy staff brings to Ridge Crest,” says Director of Rehabilitation Services, Brian Gallo. “And the new VR therapy is a tremendous tool that helps our patients get more out of their therapy experience and actually have a little fun along the way.”

The renovations also added a doctors suite, which will be able to accommodate on-site primary and specialty care appointments, lab draws and consultations for our residents. Further work to renovate Ridge Crest’s patient rooms and common areas and add a new café, is planned for later this year.
