Six (More) Unique Things to Do Near Redding for Seniors
Located on a bluff about five miles south of Redding, Meadow Ridge offers older adults a pace of living that can only be matched by the quaint communities and townships that spot the neighboring Connecticut countryside. But this relaxed living shouldn’t be mistaken for isolation – in fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Use our list of six unique things to do near Redding to plan your weekend!
Redding and the surrounding areas offer a multitude of activities, particularly for outdoor enthusiasts, and within a few miles of the community’s front doors are hidden gems just waiting to be explored:
- Hit the Links
The Connecticut countryside is paradise for any passionate golfer. Within 10 miles of the community are numerous member-only country clubs, and public courses such as Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury are just short commutes away.
- Take in a Show
Want an evening at the theatre? Feel the itch for a live concert? Need to tickle that funny bone? The Ridgefield Playhouse in nearby Ridgefield hosts musicians, comedians and stage performers throughout the year.
- Turn Back Time
If you had something more educational in mind, visit the Keeler Tavern Museum just down the street from The Ridgefield Playhouse. This museum transports guests back to life in 18th-century Connecticut with tour guides in period costumes.
- Enjoy Some Tunes
The first Friday of each month, November through April, the Redding Community Center hosts the Lyrics Coffee House music series, featuring a variety of artists. Free coffee and BYOW (wine) is an added bonus.
- A Taste of Sophistication
Head north toward Danbury and stop by Tarrywile Park and Mansion. This Victorian estate boasts manicured grounds and acres of meandering trails (including stocked Parks Pond) as beautiful as they are diverse.
- Fall for the Foliage
One of the most popular fall traditions in rural Connecticut is “leaf peeping”. While there are plenty of great spots to view this natural phenomenon, Meadow Ridge’s expansive campus and hilltop location mean you don’t have to go far to find one (just see our lower pond at the top of the page).
Meadow Ridge residents enjoy these and many other activities, and with regular off-campus transportation and planned group outings, the opportunity for new adventures is limitless.
