Adelino Barata

Mind & Memory Care Director and Infection Preventionist Adelino Barata’s “eureka” moment came while undergoing medical treatment. “The care I received gave me a great deal of hope during a trying time,” he says. “From that point on, I wanted to give that same comfort to others.”

Adelino attended the University of Bridgeport on a soccer scholarship and received his nursing license at Lincoln Technical Institute. He has cared for people with dementia for 13 years.

His job is to ensure the community’s common areas and apartment homes are spotless and everything is working and up to Connecticut and Benchmark guidelines. In addition, he works to monitor trends and prevent infection outbreaks.

His demeanor and patience allow him to work better with dementia residents with behavioral difficulties. The successful outcomes are the best part of his job, he says, adding, “It’s an incredible feeling to see someone laughing minutes after they were in tears.”

When he’s not working, he spends time with his family and watches and coaches soccer.
